a week with Mamaw
It was about the age of 10 when I was allowed to spend a week just Mamaw and me. Growing up, Mamaw (my mom's mom) would come and stay weeks at a time with us. Sometimes she stayed with us while my parents took a break from the business and the raising of the 4 of us and we always looked forward to when she would come be with us. One week is particularly special to me because I had the privilege of her complete attention in a little white row house in Louisville, Ky.

Silly songs, smiles and laughter.
Finding shapes in the clouds to watching the birds build a nest.
Long bubble baths with sweet smelling soaps.
Evening stories of years I could only imagine in black and white.
Simple beautiful.
Time seemed to stand still when it was just Mamaw and me. She knew how to make time last
every drop of it noticed
Valued.
Unwasted, unhurried and
undeniably satisfying
because you knew she got you.
And that is never wasted time when someone understands, listens and knows.
Maybe not the latest fad or current technology,
She knew what was important and it was always right in front of her.
That moment, that person,
making the moment about you
and leaving you empowered that anything was possible.
Encouraged to brave whatever the open door offered.
She believed in you
and with a sparkle in her eye
you believed too.
All of us who are blessed enough to have called her Mom or Mamaw

Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful souls showing the kind of love Mamaw was.
